Re: Topic Tuesday// Life With NDIS// Tues 22nd June, 7-:8:30PM AEST

I personally gave up with NDIS for my own family years ago I just fund it myself these days BUT I have had a little person I worked closely with and the issues to change are not that easy and the whole time this person has been on NDIS there plan has never ben used properly due to coordinators mistakes

Welcome @Appleblossom! I am so glad to hear you have had a good experience of support through the NDIS. It sounds like it has made a difference Heart

Thank you for sharing your experience, there are defintiely people who have found the right supports with the NDIS 🙂 Also really glad to hear that the forums have been a good additional layer of support and you have a community here. Sometimes different supports can all add together to provide a more comprehensive support network.

I would love to hear more about what the process of accessing NDIS support was like for you?

Re: Topic Tuesday// Life With NDIS// Tues 22nd June, 7-:8:30PM AEST

Hello, I've been following as best as I can. I've been out and just got home.

I've been navigating the NDIS for a year. I've only just found the right fit as far as a support coordinator goes. A whole year wasted with someone not geared up for my son.

My biggest piece of advice...find someone who specialises in mental health, trained and knowledgeable. Ask them what skill set they have. What's their biggest achievement to date. I now have a support coordinator that specialises in my son's illness and I believe it will be the change needed to implement supports that will actually be of benefit.

Thank you for this topic talk @Luckymoo @TideisTurning @MrsFahey @sal101 @Daisydreamer @SandeeLWB @Adge @@@all here

A  Psychosocial recovery coaches role is more in depth in relation to the psychosocial aspect of your goals (not necessarily the goals as listed on the plan - the goals within goals and others you want to tackle in relation to your disability), day to day advice re mental health support to help you progress in various areas of life and also the reporting of the person's progress.

@SandeeLWB I asked for an exercise physiologist (someone to do exercise with) in my plan but was denied. But I have a bucket of money for social and community programs. Which is where it becomes confusing.

Hi @Anastasia glad to have you with us!! Specific knowledge can be really helpful to bring that extra level of understanding it sounds like you've found for your son with the new Support Coordinator. Thanks so much for sharing that tip with us!
