Re: Morning Check-In

Have to do Peritoneal dialysis at home overnight because there is no dialysis centre near me @Cuddlebear

The specialist say 15 % and lower is to start dialysis and then your name goes on the transplant list

When your kidney is now working it sends the toxins around the body causing other problems so the dialysis will help get rid of the toxins

Re: Morning Check-In

@Shaz51 I just looked up what that type of dialysis. I’m sorry you don’t have a hospital/clinic nearby. I believe the Government must adequately fund this so all Australians have one nearby they can access. This includes people in regional and remote communities.

Ah ok I did not know how the kidney transplant list works. These transplants have come a long way and have a lot of success improving peoples quality of life.

Kidneys are so important so many people don’t realise the important work kidneys do. Mine were checked before I had my bypass and part foot amputation because they needed to be working well post surgery. My kidneys were all good so the surgeries could go ahead.

How are you feeling about your next appointment with the specialist? Have you been provided support as you go through this illness and future dialysis?

Re: Morning Check-In

Hello @ale_inmelb , here for you if you like to chat

Re: Morning Check-In

@Shaz51 Yeah thanks. It's been a tough week with all the travelling trip and some academic issue

Re: Morning Check-In

@Shaz51  Support is so important in chronic medical conditions and illness. I have peripheral artery disease and got no support before or after amputation and major bypass surgery. I really believe that all treatment should include proper mental health support and access to spaces with people who have lived experience. I do hope that this is offered to you and then you can decide if it is something you want.

Whilst we have different illnesses I can empathise with how scary it is. The worry about everything involved is big and totally understandable. It is a big change in life and on top of it all a lot of navigating the medical system which in itself isnt easy for many people. I too have regular check on my arteries by the vascular surgeon. I’m so scared every time an appointment comes up as my disease isnt curable and will get worse and I’ll need more surgeries to stay alive. I take someone with me to these appointments for emotional support. I’m really lucky to have a vascular surgeon I like and feel safe with. Very lucky to have that. Are you able to take someone with you? I know it still does feel very scary and causes anxiety and worry but it can help knowing you’ve got someone you trust to support you.

Re: Morning Check-In

Sending you big hugs @Cuddlebear. This sounds so incredibly hard for you... please know that we are always here to talk. I know that doesn't change what you are going through, but I hope it helps you to feel less alone in your experience.

You too @Shaz51 💛💛

Re: Morning Check-In
